Requirements
tools, accounts, keys.

What to install on your computer, what to sign up for online, which API keys you need, and what running the product costs.

On Windows

The commands on this page are written for macOS and Linux shells. On Windows, run them in Git Bash or WSL, where they work as written. In PowerShell, set a variable with $env:NAME="value" instead of export. Flutter, Node.js and the Firebase and FlutterFire CLIs run natively on Windows; iOS and macOS builds need a Mac.

01Tools on your computer

ToolVersionWhy
Flutter SDK (includes Dart)3.41.3 or newer, stableBuilds both apps. Both need Dart 3.11.1+, which first ships with Flutter 3.41.3. Install
Node.js22 LTSBuilds and deploys the Cloud Functions (functions/package.json pins Node 22).
Firebase CLI13 or newerDeploys rules, Remote Config, functions and hosting. npm install -g firebase-tools
FlutterFire CLIlatestConnects the apps to your Firebase project. dart pub global activate flutterfire_cli
Xcode + CocoaPodsXcode 15+, CocoaPods 1.14+iOS builds. Needs a Mac.
Android Studiocurrent stableAndroid SDK, emulator and the keytool command.
Google ChromecurrentRuns the admin panel locally.

Check everything at once. Lines for platforms you don't build for may stay yellow.

Wallet apps in the stores

Apple accepts crypto wallet apps only from developers enrolled as an organisation (guideline 3.1.5). Enrol your company, not a personal account, if you plan to publish on iOS.

03API keys

All keys are free to start with; paid tiers only matter when you grow. The exact variable names and where each one goes are in Configuration.

04What your users can run

PlatformMinimumNotes
iOSiOS 15.5Set in the Xcode project.
AndroidAPI 24 (Android 7.0)Flutter's default, never below 21 (android/app/build.gradle.kts).
macOSmacOS 10.15Wallets are kept in the login keychain (no keychain entitlement needed). Sign release builds with your own Apple certificate; Firebase sign-in (PRO, crypto payment, Portfolio Brain, push) also needs the Keychain Sharing capability with your team (FAQ).
WebCurrent browsersStore subscriptions do not exist on the web; sell PRO with the crypto payment or grant it by hand in Admin → Users. The crypto PRO payment is shown on the web and in macOS builds made with DIRECT_DISTRIBUTION=true, never in the iOS and Android apps or a Mac App Store build. There is no Face ID or fingerprint in a browser: the user sets a vault passphrase of at least 10 characters before creating or importing a wallet, and types it again to unlock the browser and before a sensitive operation: revealing the recovery phrase, and every signing — sends, swaps and WalletConnect requests, whatever the amount (details).

The admin panel is a web app only.

05Running costs to expect

  • Firebase Blaze usage: functions, database reads and writes, hosting. Small projects usually stay low; set a budget alert.
  • Paid API tiers once you pass their free limits.
  • Apple (yearly) and Google (one-time) developer fees.
  • Store commission on subscriptions.
